I've added a new feature to both the Calibration and Advanced editor tabs. There is now a switch there that when enabled will apply your edits to all 16 User Setups at once rather than just the currently selected one.

Generally if you are making calibration changes to a trigger you probably want that to apply to every setup, so this feature can save you the effort of manually copying it across all the setups.

The feature defaults to 'on', but you can turn it off if you liked things the way they were.

I was recently asked this via email and thought that the answer may be useful to other ZenEdit users as well.

Q: "Any chance of real time control so you can hear any changes more quickly?"

My reply:

True "real-time control" is not possible with the 4.0 board, however you can come quite close using the very latest version of ZenEdit.

After you've performed at least one SysEx transmission to your Zendrum, the application will remember which MIDI Out device you used. From then on you can use CTRL+T or CMD+T to perform a "quick send" which dumps the SysEx directly out that MIDI Out device without showing a window or dialog box.
Also note that once you've received SysEx on your Zendrum, you can immediately try it out even though you are still in 'ER' mode. You are not required to go to the Save function before the settings take effect. You can leave it in ER mode until you're satisfied with your edits.

Here's my typical editing workflow; hopefully it will give you some ideas:

1) I leave my MIDI In disconnected, because my VST (BFD in my case) will want to receive MIDI data from my Zendrum.
2) I scroll over to "ER" on my Zendrum and leave it there.
3) I edit my triggers, etc.
4) I press "cursor up" on my Zendrum till ER starts to flash.
5) I press CTRL+T on my keyboard -- SysEx is sent to the Zendrum in about 2 seconds. If ER does not stop blinking (as can happen) I press CTRL+T again until it does.

I can now bang on my triggers to try out the settings. Go back to step #3 to repeat as needed.

Once I am in this workflow (edit > cursor up > ctrl+t ; repeat) I find that I can very quickly tweak stuff and try it out nearly in real-time.

I hope this helps you. Feel free to ask me any additional questions you may have.

Cheers.

It also adds support for the Roland TD-30 and has an updated map file for the ZendrumDrive (Zendrum TRS), in addition to several bug fixes.

Unless any major problems are found, this is likely to be the final beta version. I'm anxious for this version to go live so that I can start focusing more on adding new features, so your continued help with testing and reporting issues is much appreciated.

NOTE!!
If you installed a previous version of 2.0, you'll have to uninstall it first. The new release uses a different and incompatible installer and updater.

Version 2.1 is a major milestone in that it now allows you to directly send and receive SysEx from ZenEdit straight to your Zendrum. No more fussing around with .sys files or third-party applications!

More info as it becomes available, but for now you can obtain the latest beta here.

Sure thing, you can do this now by creating a user-defined mapping file, using the original one for Superior as the base.

1) Go to View > Mapping Editor.
2) Locate 'Superior Drummer' in the list and select it.
3) From the top toolbar, click the "Copy mapping" button and enter a suitable name for the copy.
4) Now locate the new mapping in the list and select it.
5) On the right-hand side, go ahead and make the changes to the trigger names as you wish.
6) When you're done, click the "Apply Changes" button in the upper-right.

Now just set it up so that your project file uses that mapping instead of the original one for Superior and rock out.

That would be cool if there was a way to overlap crossfades. In the SD2, I can play a shaker and conga at the same time, or even the kick and a crash cymbal at the same time on one pad. I think if there was a way to do that on the Zen with a drum module, that would open up a whole new avenue for some.

The centerpiece for this release is a vastly improved "note picker". This is the control that you use to select sounds and notes for triggers.

In this new version, the note picker expands to take up most of the screen, and also sprouts multiple columns. This helps you find what you're looking for much quicker than digging around in the scrolling list from previous versions.

Additionally, the note picker has a new "sorting and grouping" feature. What this does is bubble up any module names to the surface and then sorts them. This makes it even easier to find note names as they won't be sprinkled throughout the list, but rather neatly sorted at the top.

Another new feature of the note picker is aimed at melodic players. This is a full 88 key piano roll across the top of the note picker. Rather than dig for specific note numbers or english names, you can now just select the note directly from the piano.

This new version also does away with the three "panel buttons" that were at the top of the trigger and setup edit panes, and replaces them with a single button. This new button simply toggles between "normal" and "melodic" modes. This further simplifies your workflow as you don't need to mess with the 3 previous buttons just to change views.

As an additional workflow aid, you can also now double-click triggers to edit their note value, rather than having to first select the trigger and then click on the note picker.

We hope you find these improvements helpful! To obtain the new release, please use the "Check For Updates" item on the "Help" menu.

New in version 1.0.15 is the ability to edit the exact velocities at which your Zendrum switches from one crossfade note to the next.

You can access the crossfade editor from the "User Setup" menu, or from the "x4 Points" button within the user setup editor.

This is yet another "you can't do that on a Zen" feature, only available from ZenEdit. Now you can really take control of your performance!

None of Roland's SPD-XX units have "mappings" to speak of, but instead use general MIDI. To use these modules within ZenEdit, choose "General MIDI" as the module (it's also the default).
